How to Remove Contact Lenses

Removing your contact lenses properly helps protect both your eyes and your lenses.

Step-by-Step

  1.  Wash and dry your hands thoroughly.
  2. Look upward while gently pulling down your lower eyelid.
  3. Slide the contact lens downward onto the white part of your eye.
  4. Gently pinch the lens between your thumb and index finger.
  5. Carefully remove the lens.

After Removal

For reusable lenses:

  1. Clean and disinfect your lenses immediately using the lens care solution recommended by your eye care professional.

For daily disposable lenses:

  1. Discard the lenses immediately after removal.

Important Reminders

  1. Never use sharp objects or your fingernails to remove a contact lens.
  2. If a lens feels stuck, apply lubricating drops approved for contact lens wearers (if recommended by your eye care professional), blink several times, and try again.
  3. If you cannot remove the lens, contact your eye care professional promptly.
