How to Read Your Contact Lens Prescription

Your contact lens prescription contains important information that allows your contact lenses to fit properly and provide clear vision.

Common Prescription Terms

OD – Right Eye

OS – Left Eye

Power (SPH) – The lens power needed to correct your vision.

BC (Base Curve) – The curvature of the back surface of the contact lens.

DIA (Diameter) – The width of the contact lens measured in millimeters.

CYL (Cylinder) – The amount of correction needed for astigmatism.

AXIS – The orientation of the astigmatism correction.

ADD – Additional magnifying power used in multifocal contact lenses.

Brand – The specific contact lens prescribed by your eye care professional.

Expiration Date – The date your prescription expires.
